I have nothing to write
Heyy! Bükre is here again. :)
I am here to share my notes from the meeting with the Medium Writer Support Team called “Never Run Out of Story Ideas: How to Discover Your Writing Niche” with you.

1-) Why do you want to write?
This question may direct us to the deeper horizons of ourselves. I say “us” because I am not different, I want to improve my skills here too. And even if we don’t have an actual answer — and this is the best answer to not having a certain reason, in my opinion — then this will let us think about it more and more. Every time we think about it, we can make it work for the discovery of new horizons, in both inner and outer worlds.
2-) What is your 30 minute TED talk?
To be honest, this took me into it a lot. Because this is one of my three deepest desires in life: to be an actress, to perform a stand-up show, and to give a Ted Talk in front of a large crowd :)
That is why when I heard this, I felt excited.
Maybe you are willing to feel excited with me about it. Let’s assume that we’ll have an event today and that you are my guest. What would you say in your 30-minute TED talk if you had no preparation? What can you say…?
3-) What would people listen to from you?
If you can not talk, you cannot write.
I will put the “some goals for writing” page from the Medium team.
(You can also look at the Medium creators hub account).
“” Some possible goals for writing:
Building your personal brand
Sharing your professional expertise
Investigating something you are curious about
Writing just because you love it
Writing to connect with your friends, family or fans.
Writing to create a community
Writing to build awareness about social/cultural issues that matter to you
Writing to take creative risks, to play with language, to surprise yourself. “”
We can write about obvious things also. Because it’s obvious to who?
Maybe there will be so many people who are willing to discover our point of view on this topic. We cannot know.
4-) Can you ask yourself interesting questions?
“” What are your secret obsessions? Hobbies or secret interests?
What are you interested in? Always follow what interests you. If you are interested, the readers will be too.
What are you an “expert” in?
What do you find yourself explaining to friends, family, coworkers?
What keeps you up at night? “”
The last question was my favourite, to be honest. Because I have never seen a question like this before and I don’t feel like an expert on anything for now. The discovering part took me into that more.
5-) What is your elevator pitch?
What is your unique “thing”? Can you distil it into 5–10 words?
An elevator pitch, elevator speech, or elevator statement is a short description of an idea, product, or company that explains the concept in a way such that any listener can understand it in a short period of time. This description typically explains who the thing is for, what it does, why it is needed, and how it will get done. Finally, when explaining an individual person, the description generally explains one’s skills and goals and why they would be a productive and beneficial person to have on a team or within a company or project. An elevator pitch does not have to include all of these components, but it usually does at least explain what the idea, product, company, or person is and their value. (The author expresses gratitude to Wikipedia for this lovely, great, and clear contribution :)
Alison Doyle says that an elevator pitch is a way to share your expertise and credentials quickly and effectively with people who don’t know you. (This is also another great piece if you want to look at something about elevator pitches.)
After questions and practice, we can become better at quick expressions about ourselves and our ideas. We can also become better at self-observation, which I admire. Real observations are better than any words in my opinion. Whatever book or words or suggestions you read, it feels completely different when you experience it. But the awareness point is important here. Even if we think we are unlucky or far from being inspired, maybe we should consider the possibility that we are not well prepared. Maybe we are not ready to seize the opportunity when it comes. Maybe we need to be prepared for that before it comes to being able to catch it? (;
We do not have to be trendy and popular.
We can just write.
We make our own rules; there is no such thing as a “right” or “wrong” thing in it.No need for obsession with “what works”.
We are humans. We are not programmed to appreciate it. If you have any doubts, remember how Bill Gates was mocked about the internet throughout history…
Yes, Bill Gates…
We are people, not content robots.
We write because it is something we enjoy doing.
If we need something different, we can change our coordinates on the map or reference points in our eyes for all time.
Let’s enjoy writing together! :)
